World Leaders React To Death Of Fidel Castro

Raul Castro, the brother of former Cuban President, Fidel Castro, announced the passing of the Cuban leader Friday. Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born August 13, 1926 in Birán, Holguin Province, Cuba. He rose to political power in 1959 after leading the Cuban Revolution to overthrow Batista’s regime. Castro adopted a philosophy that was akin to that of Marx and Lenin, which was unacceptable to the United States, who in response, spent decades trying to remove him.
Some Cubans are celebrating while others are genuinely saddened at, the passing of their former president. World leaders are sending out tweets of condolences and issuing official statements.
Irish President Michael Higgins tweeted, “Castro will be remembered as a giant among global leaders.”
Nicolas Maduro, the Venezuelan President tweeted, “To all the revolutionaries of the world, we have to continue with his legacy and his flag of independence, of socialism, of homeland.”
France President Francois Hollande, issued a statement that said, “Fidel Castro was a major figure of the XXth Century. He embodied the Cuban revolution, in the hopes it aroused and the disappointments it provoked. Actor of the cold war, he represented, for Cubans, pride in rejecting external domination.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin, sent a telegram to current Cuban President Raul Castro that “hailed Castro as a symbol of a whole era pf modern world history” saying he was “a wise and strong person, an inspiring example for all countries and peoples, and a sincere and reliable friend of Russia.”
The President of Namibia tweeted, “The death of Fidel signals an end of an era. Our comrade is no more but his revolutionary legacy will remain with Namibia forever.”
Fidel Castro, lead Cuba for half a century. Many Cuban citizens said, they “appreciated his leadership on health and education, as much as keeping their country independent.”
Plans to lay him to rest will be released soon.
