Three people are, injured including a police officer, after a vehicle made a wrong turn and entered the secure gates of the National Security Agency Wednesday.
NSA police fired shots at a black SUV after the driver drove through area of the secured facility without authorization.
Cheryl Phillips, a Fort Meade garrison spokeswoman confirmed, “one person was injured in the shooting outside the base and was taken to hospital.” Later, several people suffered injuries unrelated to gun fire and were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the car was a 17 year old who got lost. The owner of the vehicle Javonte Brown was too sleepy to drive so he gave his keys to the minor then fell asleep.
The young driver got lost and was trying to turn around when he turned into the NSA parking area. Several NSA police officers began to fire at the vehicle hitting it multiple times. The gun shots caused the young driver to panic and continue driving until he hit a concrete barrier.
He and the other passengers were released by the FBI and other authorities, and there was never a threat of criminal or terrorist activity.
