Sauber walk into this season with a new new look and new team as they kick off their partnership with Alfa Romeo and the launch of their new car for the 2018 season, the C37.
2018 marks the return of one of the great names in Formula One since 1950 when Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio took the first two world championship. Alfa Romeo also competed as a constructor as well as a engine supplier in Formula One, from 1950 to 1987.
The new Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team are hoping to take advantage of this new partnership along other changes which the team made last season.
The first thing many will notice about the C37 will be the new red and white color scheme, which is a far departure from last year. The new livery also bears the Alfa Romeo logo signifying the newly formed partnership.
This has also made changes in the leadership, bringing in former Renault team principle Frédéric Vasseur after the departure of Monisha Kaltenborn.
The team have also made changes to the driver lineup with F2 champion Charles Leclerc partnering Marcus Ericsson. Leclerc replaces former driver Pascal Wehrlein.
Speaking on the upcoming season, Vasseur said: “I am very much looking forward to the 2018 season, and to seeing Marcus (Ericsson) and Charles (Leclerc) on track. We have put lots of effort and hard work into the C37 over the last few months, and it is fantastic to be launching the new car today. I am convinced that Marcus and Charles form the perfect driver line-up, with one being an experienced driver and one a promising rookie. Marcus is going into his fourth season with us. He is a valuable part of the team, and we benefit from his experience and precise technical feedback. As for Charles, he has proven his talent in prior categories and deserves to be on the Formula 1 grid this season.”
The C37, as with all cars this season, will be running the new Halo head protection device as many will be interested to see how teams tackle the challenges that the Halo will bring this season.
