By: Jason Fisher, Xiro Xone News December 15, 2015
All schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District were shut down today following an credible threat, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
LAUSD has not provided details, at least one member of the school board received an emailed bomb threat, citing multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation.
The closings are out of “an abundance of caution," the LAPD said.
The LAPD is not on tactical alert. The threat is not connected to any previous threats or the San Bernardino investigation, the official said.
An electronic threat was received this morning mentioning the safety of the schools, officials said at a news conference today.
The FBI was notified and the threat is still being analyzed, officials said.
The threat involved many schools and mentioned backpacks and "other packages," L.A. Unified School District Superintendent Ramon Cortines said.
All schools will be searched by the end of the day, officials said.
LAUSD, is the second largest school district in the nation, with more than 640,000 students at over 900 schools and 187 public charter schools, according.
The district tweeted information about the closure and activated an information hotline for parents at 213-241-2064. Parents were required to show identification when picking up students.
