Lewis Hamilton sits out of 2017 F1 tire test due to minor foot injury

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has chosen to sit out of the 2017 Formula One tire test with Mercedes at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain on Thursday, due to a minor foot injury.
Hamilton was to scheduled to drive a modified version of their 2015 car as Pirelli continues testing on next season's new wider tires. Teammate Nico Rosberg had to sub in for the injured Hamilton. Rosberg completed 60 laps in the W06, before the test was interrupted by rain.
From there Manor Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein who also serves as a reserve driver for the Mercedes team, will take over from Rosberg for the second and final day of testing.
"Lewis had some discomfort in his foot after training on Tuesday," a Mercedes spokesman told Reuters. "It was agreed he wouldn't test so he could rest it and get physio to be in good shape for Austin, which he will be. No concerns on that front."

As the season draws to a close, with four races remaining, Lewis Hamilton trails 33 points behind Nico Rosberg in the drivers' championship, ahead of next week’s United States Grand Prix .
