Williams driver Lance Stroll rides into the Austrian Grand Prix weekend elated after taking his first career podium and becoming the youngest driver to score a podium at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix two weeks ago.
“Austria will be a completely new experience for me, as this is the first track of the year where I have already raced. I just love that track. It is so cool and a place I have enjoyed racing. There are not that many corners but it has a great flow and it is easy to get a good rhythm. It is always great going back to a track where you have been successful, and that is definitely the case here as last year in Formula 3 I had two wins and a second! The area is very beautiful and it reminds me of back home in Canada – one of those northern tracks with pine trees”
Stroll hit a few bumps in the road at the start of the season, but the 18 year old has begun to find his grove after he landed his first points in front of his fellow countryman at last month’s Canadian Grand Prix.
“The jump from F3 to F1 this year was quite big. It all comes down to spending more time in the car and me adapting to it. There will be hard weekends and there will be good weekends - and that does not change. For sure Baku was a big eye-opener for me in Formula 1 and a great result! The season continues and we will keep pushing as hard as we can.”
Like most young F1 drivers Stroll has strong support from his family. His father Lawrence Stroll comes with his son to every race to cheer him on and support his son on this incredible journey.
Williams currently sits fifth in the constructor's championship, four points ahead of Scuderia Toro Rosso.
