Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen lead the way in first Singapore Grand Prix Practice

MARINA BAY, Singapore -- Red Bull duo Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen got off to a strong start after running one-two in the opening practice for this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix.
The Grand Prix celebrates it tenth year since the popular city-state held it’s first night race at the Marina Bay Circuit in 2008.
Ricciardo finished with a time of 1:39.711 on the the hyper-soft tire with teammate Max Verstappen 0.201s behind in second. Sebastian Vettel finds his back against the wall this weekend after falling behind 30 points in the championship to title rival Lewis Hamilton.
Vettel finished the morning session 0.286s behind Ricciardo in third as Red Bull are predicted to have a strong showing this weekend. Vettel’s teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished fourth followed by Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg in fifth.
Championship leader Lewis Hamilton steps into the weekend with a wave of momentum behind him after winning the Italian Grand Prix two weeks ago. Hamilton finished sixth and was 1.521s off Ricciardo as Mercedes is expected to have a tough time around the streets of Singapore.
Carlos Sainz finished seventh in the second Renault with Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas in eighth. Sauber’s Charles Leclerc, who will be heading off to Ferrari to replace Kimi Raikkonen next season, finished ninth.
It was a rough session for the Monégasque driver, who hopes to impress his new bosses with a good result this weekend. Leclerc made heavy contact with the wall on the rundown to Turn 13 ending his morning.
The 20-year old walked away but the same could not be said for his car which suffered damage to it’s right front suspension.
Haas’ Romain Grosjean finished out the top 10 edging out Marcus Ericsson who finished 11th in the second Sauber, Sergio Perez’s Force India in 12th, and teammate Kevin Magnussen in 13th. McLaren’s Fernando Alonso took 14th ahead of Esteban Ocon in 15th in the second Force India.
Toro Rosso drivers Pierre Gasly and Brendon Hartley finished 16th and 17th ahead the Williams pair of Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin in 18th and 19th with Alonso’s teammate Stoffel Vandoorne finishing out the bottom of the order in 20th.
