Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has been thrown in the middle of the presidential campaign due to a batch of stolen emails from his Gmail account, that show he has issues with both major presidential candidates.
The contents of the emails were first reported by Buzzfeed News. It said the messages had been obtained by the website DCLeaks.com.
Powell called Trump a "national disgrace" and "international pariah" in a June 17 email to a former aide, saying the Republican presidential contender was "in the process of destroying himself, no need for Dems to attack him."
He also wrote that the “birther movement was racist,” -- referring to Trump questioning if President Obama was born in the U.S. And when sent a transcript of one of Trump’s pitches to African American voters, Powell wrote:
“There is nothing he can say that will sway black voters...He takes us for idiots. He can never overcome what he tried to do to Obama with his search for the birth certificate...the whole birther movement was racist...And for him to say yesterday that within four years he would have 95% of blacks voting for him is schizo fantasy.”
In a separate email titled "racism," Powell writes, "There is a level of intolerance in parts of the Republican Party."
Powell also expressed frustration about his name being linked to Clinton's email issues, writing in another leaked email: "I have told Hilleary's [sic] minions repeatedly that they are making a mistake trying to drag me in, yet they still try," Powell wrote.
Powell who is a retired four-star general, served in three GOP administrations, and was once considered a possible presidential nominee.
