Best known for his role as “Uncle Jesse” on the hit sitcom “Full House,” actor John Stamos has been charged with DUI stemming from a June arrest in Beverly Hills, prosecutors announced Thursday.
Stamos 52, was facing one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said in a news release.
The actor was scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday. The DA’s statement noted that attorneys may appear on behalf of defendants, without the defendants being present, in misdemeanor cases.
Stamos was taken into custody June 12, after “concerned citizens reported the defendant was allegedly behaving strangely and driving erratically,” according to the news release.
After his arrest, Stamos appeared on the "Today" show and talked about his stint at a residential rehab program over the summer.
"I lost my mother last year, who was the love of my life — obviously a difficult time for me," he said. "I had this moment, I had some time off and I had a decision to make. So I took advantage of the time and I made a choice, and I'm just so grateful that I did."
If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of six months in county jail.
